The City of Kaufman and CareFlite signed an agreement following the Kaufman City Council’s meeting on May 23, 2016 to allow all customers of the City’s water system to become members of CareFlite for $1 per month. This includes all members of each household. The contract with CareFlite will be effective on June 1, 2016.
As part of the agreement with CareFlite, the City will add $1.00 to each monthly water bill to provide a Caring-Heart Membership for each household. The Caring-Heart Membership protects your entire household against the out of pocket expenses of a CareFlite ground or air ambulance transport. If you have insurance, you will not receive a balance bill. If you have no insurance, you will automatically receive a 50% discount from CareFlite. Complete details and program rules are available at www.careflite.org. The City will provide CareFlite with a list of participating households monthly following the first billing cycle after June 1st. Failure to pay your water bill will terminate your CareFlite membership. Anyone who lives in the City but does not receive a water bill can also participate in this program by obtaining and completing a special CareFlite membership application available at City Hall and paying the $12 annual cost when submitting the application.
While we strongly encourage everyone to protect their family with this program, anyone in a single family residence who does not wish to be included can opt out at any time by going to City Hall and filling out a short form stating that the coverage is not desired. Household members covered by Medicaid are not eligible for Membership by state regulation.
For questions about CareFlite and/or Membership, please call the Caring-Heart Member Services Office (877) 339-2273 during regular business hours. For questions about the water system or your bill, please contact the City of Kaufman. In all emergencies, dial 911.
Beginning March 3, 2016, the Texas Department of Transportation will be changing the traffic pattern on the US 175 frontage roads to one-way operation between the intersection of US 175/SH 34 to the next crossover to the east. The eastbound frontage road will support the eastbound traffic and westbound frontage road will support the westbound traffic. The frontage roads, east and west of the specified location, are planned to remain open to the two-way traffic only during the first phase of construction on the SH 34 Bypass project. This change in traffic pattern on these frontage roads will be permanent. The entire project is estimated to be complete in early 2017. Motorists are urged to be mindful of workers in the construction zone.
In an ongoing effort to improve infrastructure, the City of Kaufman and TxDOT are always working to rehabilitate roadways. This press release gives details on the latest project.
