Planning Division
The Planning Division is responsible for implementing the vision of the City Council as it relates to the development and growth of the community. The City is endeavoring to adopt and implement a Comprehensive Plan, which will establish this vision for the community. The Comprehensive Plan will likely include such elements as a land use plan, thoroughfare plan, parks and trails plan, sub-area plans, housing considerations, environmental considerations, neighborhood planning recommendations, long-term planning for public facilities and utility infrastructure, and written goals and recommendations.
The Planning Division also guides residents, business owners, and development professionals through the City’s development review process and handles the review of all development-related applications, including:
- Annexations
- Development and Facilities Agreements
- Zoning applications
- Specific Use Permits (SUPs)
- Civil/Construction Plan Review
- Site Plan review
- Subdivision Platting
We provide staff reviews of all development-related applications and make recommendations to the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council.
Finally, the division administers the City’s zoning and subdivision regulations and improves the regulations, as necessary, to reflect the evolving needs of the community and the vision and direction of the City Council. Where property owners need relief from certain zoning regulations, we guide them through the variance process, which is ultimately governed by the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
